Things to Keep In Mind When Using Herbal Plants
Before you set out to use herbal plants for treating common ailments please read the following :

- Use only one plant medicine at a time. Though there may be several suggested herbs for certain ailments, use only one of them at any given time, normally the one immediately available to you;
- When treatment calls for boiling any medicinal plant - leaves, flowers or barks - use only stainless steel or earthen cooking utensils. Never boil any medicinal plant in aluminum pots or use aluminum utensils. Aluminum reacts chemically with the medicinal elements in plants.
- Leave the pot uncovered when boiling to release toxins if any
- When boiling, boil just enough for a one-day supply. any decoction effectivity is good for only 8 - 12 hours after boiling.
- Take decoction either hot or cold. Strain decoction before taking it
- Wash thoroughly any leaves, barks, flowers and roots with water before boiling or using it as poultice
- Do not use or boil two or more different herbal plants together unless instructed to do so
- Follow instructions carefully, especially the measurement and dosage
- some individuals are sensitive and allergic` to certain leaves and plants. If symptoms of allergy is observed during and after treatment, STOP the treatment immediately and wash affected area thoroughky (for skin applications).

- Individuals known to be allergic to some plants are not encouraged to use herbal medications. they may still use the water treatments though
- Follow procedures on water treatments carefully. These treatments and medications are for simple illnesses with no known complications. after three or four days of treatment with no curative effecr, or if symptoms get worse, STOP treatment and consult a physician for further medical management.
